Poem

Untitled
by Zaina Anwar

Piece by piece
with infinite care,
I built the world
upon which you now
rule without a care
or a thought,
so heartless you
infernal beast,
that you should stand
smirking as you
trample beneath your
cursed feet,
the world founded
on my dreams.

Beautifully written. If I relate this with nature, it seems very true and sad.

Hmmm, that's an interesting interpretation.

What I like is how you can place so many actors in the two roles in this poem. So many possible perspectives of giving, taking, sacrifice and disregard. My tendency was place various cultures or classes in the speaker's role, but I get that way.

Though this poem allows, indeed forces upon the reader the possibility of multiple interpretations, it is actually a monologue, a woman's denunciation of the male's insensitivity towards her deeper instinctive life. Also, believe it or not, this poem was partly inspired by an episode from the 'Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' called 'The Noble Bachelor'...
