Poem- The Last Illusion

Trees Shadows on the Park Walls, Roundhay Park, Leeds by John Grimshaw Atkinson

It is easy
to fall into disuse,
to let the plants grow wild,
to let weeds stifle the roots.

It is easy to dismiss
the beauty of the sun,
to miss the clouds floating by
and their shadows shifting over the heath,
or your child's smile as he runs,
in reckless joy,
across a sun-dappled field.

It is perilously easy
to slide into squalor,
into a comfortable ignorance,
to secure oneself in the evasion
of life's painful
ambiguities.

(inspired by the movie 'Grey Gardens', 2009)

Thank you so much, Gwilym. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I came up with this poem during my evening walk :)

It's hard to find the beauty in the chaos, but please let the sun shine.

Lovely words and sentiment in this one. If we could only convince ourselves that it's just as easy to get up and enjoy the imagery you beautifully describe in the 2nd verse, as it is to let life's ambiguities freeze us.

SO well done! Wonderful writing!I especially love the image of the child running joyously across the field.......and the ending, "life's painful ambiguities". Well done!

Although beautifully written, the message here does not resonate with me. I don't feel inclined to any of those actions.

Life is so easy, if you don't really want to live..
To live though, is not so easy..

Lovely Poem Zaina

Beautiful poem. Yes, indeed, it is 'perilously easy' to slide into a comfort zone and excruciatingly difficult to get out of it.
